In Sunderland family doctor Dr Donna Boyd is running a study which aims to find out how GPs and trainees can be better educated and informed about childhood arthritis and other musculoskeletal conditions. Dr Boyd is working with trainee GPs and other health professionals who play a leading role in the training and delivery of care to children with arthritis, including rheumatologists, orthopaedic surgeons, physiotherapists and occupational therapists, to identify how trainee GPs can receive better training in this area.

She hopes to produce educational materials for GPs to help them identify childhood arthritis and other musculoskeletal conditions affecting children, covering important areas such as history taking, examination, investigations and management, including referral to hospital care. The results of the study will also be incorporated into arc’s new Learning Guide handbook for GPs, which is currently being updated. |
